As the number of projects that we are working on and the complexity of some of our projects increase, we needed a solution to keep us organized while allowing us to store a lot of material. This lumber cart is the result of looking over several lumber cart plans available on the internet and determining what was the best solution for our needs. Have you ever had one of those projects that, as soon as you hand over the cash to make the payment, one of the legs falls off? Probably not. This Empire dresser tested us as soon as we took possession and forced us to learn new skills to complete the rebuild; "rebuild" may be an understatement for what we did to it. We hope you enjoy the journey we went through with this piece. We also hope this prevents you from learning some lessons the hard way as we did.

We found this American Drew piece at an estate sale in North Carolina.  The piece was generally in pretty good shape, with the exception of a few minor imperfections with the finish on the top.  When we are shopping for new projects we are looking for three types of pieces: antiques that need little work (see this blog for an example of these type of pieces), pieces that we are going to completely refinish (see the twin 1 and twin 2 blogs for examples of these type of pieces), and transition pieces that we will be transitioning from its original manufactured purpose to a newly created and designed purpose (this blog and our Chevron Bench blog are great examples of this).

​As soon as we saw this little coffee table, we knew that it had a lot of potential to become something new. It was solid wood, and in great shape, so we started stripping it to see where it would take us. Josh’s sister and our brother-in-law had been looking for a bench at the time, and we decided to try to meet a need and learn some new things along the way.
